Surviving A Drought

Surviving A Drought

In our temperate regions, if the precipitation falls well below normal, you may experience drought situations. The resulting death of vegetation causes a lack of food via the food chain that is based on plants. If drought increases and lasts, dead or dying animals may pollute the remaining few water supplies.

Fire hazard

The corpses of dead animals should be buried as deeply as possible in pits. Although it is often difficult to dig into dry soil, burying these bodies is the best way to prevent the risk of infection. Dead animals may also be burned, but as drought makes most of the natural elements easily flammable, you may soon no longer be able to control the fire (see forest fire ). Without water to contain the flames, a fire spreads very quickly in a dry environment. If you have no choice but to make a fire, first dig a hole large enough and deep enough, then light a fire as small as possible for what you have to do and especially keep an eye on it all the time .

Hygiene

Lack of water for toilets and toilets can create risks to your health. Sweating will keep the pores of your skin open and free of dirt but even if you think you need all the water available to hydrate you, try to keep a little after doing dirty things and before preparing to eat. Always think of setting a location to do your needs.

Storing and conserving water

If too hot a summer begins to crack the earth, immediately take precautions by storing as much water as possible and using it only for the bare necessities. Keep your water supply covered and in the shade if possible to limit evaporation.

Dig a pit to insert a cistern in the shade of the sun. Avoid tree roots, which can damage your tank in the long term. If possible, protect your tank with a polyethylene or cement coating (but only fill your tank after waiting for the cement to dry completely). If there is clay near your site, cover your tank with only a small opening to draw water. So, Your tank will be kept cooler but it will also be easier to open and close it.

In case of extreme drought, be particularly careful of the contamination of your water supply. Microbes and bacteria from dead animals can spread very easily. Even if you are thirsty, always take the time to boil the water before drinking.

Never waste water. For example, cooking water can be used for washing dishes.

I insist: always boil the water before drinking. If you dig a well and find yourself dry, you can try digging deeper to find water but the more you dig, the more water will be stored in the surrounding soil.

Try to eat the moistest possible food, for example fruit, which requires little preparation and little dishes.

Flies can quickly become a serious problem: make sure all your food stocks are properly closed. Also protect your stocks from dust, which can become a real danger in case of drought if the wind rises.

When nature is disrupted by intense drought, animals tend to behave abnormally. Threatened by thirst, normally harmless animals can become very aggressive. Finally, learn to find water in the wild , even in drought situations there are always places where there is water! And requires little preparation and little dishes.
